Education Committee:
chair: Diana Quinn, [email protected] Charged with offering additional educational opportunities to the VBGS membership. The committee oversees the Special Interest Groups, which currently are the Computer User Group, the How-to Group, and the Writers Group.
Computer User Group:
leaders: April Owens and Craig Fenton, [email protected] A group focused on computer-based research and tools. The group meets monthly September to June, generally on the fourth Thursday of the month.
How-to Group:
leader: Diana Quinn, [email protected] A group focused on methodology and techniques. The group meets monthly September to June, generally on the first Tuesday of the month.
Writers Group:
leader: Carol Johnson, [email protected] A group focused on encouraging and guiding members to getting their research written and preserved.
Awards Committee:
The current Members-at-large function as the Awards Committee, tasked with accepting and reviewing award nominations before submitting nominations to the Board for final approval. The VBGS has three awards: Excellence in Publication by a member in the publication of a genealogical subject, Distinguished Service by a member of VBGS, and Volunteer of the Year. Membership Committee:
chair: Lori Sherwood, [email protected] Tasked with keeping track of our membership rolls.
Program Committee:
chair: Cindy Frie, [email protected] In charge of our monthly meeting program, deciding the topic and finding speakers. However, it is important that this group receive input from membership. Feel free to send your recommendations for topics and speakers!
Publicity Committee:
chair: Barbara Murray, [email protected] Strives to encourage visitors to attend and keep membership informed about our society. The committee continuously works to keep the website up-to-date and a useful resource. We encourage everyone to visit the website often for updated and informative information.
Social Committee:
chair: Debby Christian, [email protected] The committee’s vision is to help members get to know each other, to have members participate in activities together, and to attract new members through social activities. The committee hosted informal Coffee Hours on Zoom over the summer, where we discussed various topics. Future plans involve field trips to historical sites, libraries, and museums, both virtually and “in person”.
