Based in Virginia Beach, VA - we are a group of genealogists (from beginners to professionals) ​​helping each other learn and grow in their genealogical journey.

We are an active community where all are welcome. Monthly Meetings are open to all, while the following are for members only: four special interest groups, a book group, social activities, and research trips. Most meetings are hybrid or on Zoom only, making it easy to participate from wherever you are.

Membership

The membership year is Sep-Aug.

Individuals are $25/year
Households of 2 are $35/year
Youth under age 25 are free

If you are interested in joining but can't afford it at this time, apply for a scholarship here.

If you aren't ready to become a member, join the non-member email list. You will be notified and invited to the Monthly Meetings, and receive the newsletter.

A Message From Our President

After being on my radar for a few years, I finally joined VBGS in late 2019 - and I'm glad I did. I've met so many lovely people and learned so much more than I would have on my own. If you are looking for a genealogy group, regardless of where you are in your family history journey, you are welcome at VBGS - even if you are not local. All but one of the meetings are held either hybrid or online only. 
And don't worry if you don't have any family history in the area... I don't!
